This poem was inspired by one of the elder statesmen of the New York open-mic scene, the sluggish but stately spokesman from New Orleans, the one and only Yiktove. Yiktove had one of those James Earl Jones voices that could make "Hickory Dickory Dock" sound profound. It was a poem he recited about Miles Davis that inspired me to write my own response piece. As the poem suggests, his ballads provide excellent company for the days (or years) when you find yourself alone in a sparsely furnished room.
