A Book in the Works

I'm happy to announce that my first collection of short fiction, "On the Proper Role of Desire," is scheduled to be published in the summer of 2013 by Big Table Publishing.  Robin Stratton, the editor and impressario, has been a wonderful supporter of my work in the Boston Literary Magazine.  I'm very happy to be joining with her on this project.  The book will include pieces of my short fiction dating back to--gulp--1996, the year I published my first short story, "The Backyard Alien."  Although the bulk of the stories will be published works that I've put out in the last year or so, it's been very satisfying to unearth some older unpublished pieces that I'd all but forgotten about.  They may not have found the right editors at the right time but there's a spark in these writings that deserves to emerge from the darkness.  I'll be posting a few of them as appetizers as we get closer to the publication date.  In the meantime, I'm very excited how all this has come together so quickly.  I feel like an overnight success, 20 years in the making.
